‘Dracula: A Comedy Of Terrors’ Is A Hysterically Unhinged Ride
An outrageous comedy with a fearlessly silly cast, Dracula: A Comedy Of Terrors, about a real estate agent who sells Dracula a house and unwittingly introduces him to his lovely fiancée, will have you rolling with laughter.

I have always been a little freaked out by vampires. It must have been based on some creepiness factor when I was a child. Still, to this day, I can only watch the Twilight movies because vegetarian vampires don’t fit my scary narrative, and during Sinners, I removed my glasses during some scenes so they were blurry. It’s just not my thing. But after watching the new production of Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors at Lazy Susan Theatre Co., I can say with my full chest – this is my new favorite vampire piece.
Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors is about real estate agent Jonathan Harker, who travels to Transylvania to meet with Count Dracula about selling houses. While chatting, Jonathan shows a photo of his attractive young fiancée, Lucy, and Dracula is taken with her. Dracula then purchases a handful of houses from Jonathan, one of which is very close to where Jonathan, Lucy, and Lucy’s family live.

This show is a ton of fun! With bit after bit reminiscent of Saturday Night Live sketches crossed with Scooby Doo episodes, I found myself laughing constantly – me and the entire audience. My cheeks hurt afterward.
Written by Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen and directed by Matthew Masino, this is a different kind of Dracula story. Garlic, blood, bats, and stakes through the heart each make an appearance, but this story is a little sexier and much funnier. There is nothing frightening to be found.
The cast is fantastic, clearly enjoying both the show and each other, and fully committed to every absurdist moment. There were several times when I marveled at the cartoon-like body and facial movements of the cast members, who kept taking it up a notch as the audience responded with hysterics.

The set is covered with an old grey rock wall, areas of baroque-style wallpaper, and a large stained-glass window that opens. Props move in and out to easily change locations from bedrooms to basements, and a small map arrives to display the characters’ travels from one city to another. All of this ultimately adds to the hilarity.
With the use of wigs, puppets, water misters, and handheld cans of hazy spray, Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors will keep you on your toes in all of the best ways. This is one of those shows that you will appreciate more while knowing less, so just trust me when I say, if you want to spend your evening thoroughly entertained, these are tickets you want to purchase. It’s a fantastic time.
Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors runs for approximately 90 minutes with no intermission. This show is appropriate for anyone ages 12 and up.
